I was taken by the Shawlens' thrillers from the very first book of his that I read and I've been a fan ever since. Across the five books, it has been possible to watch Bickerstaff grow as a writer and a storyteller. Tabula Rasa is a triumph of the genre and his best Shawlens' book to date, in my opinion.
Tabula Rasa is a classic "end of the world" thriller full of non-stop action and twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. In many ways, Tabula Rasa reminded me of a Tom Clancy book I read several years ago, titled Rainbow Six. I preferred Tabula Rasa, however.
One of the things I particularly liked about this book was that it focused less on Gavin Shawlens and much more on SAS and Lambeth Group Agent Zoe Tampsin. This was refreshing and great to see that character develop and expand.
This is a fantastic thriller and I can't recommend it highly enough to fans of the genre. If you've never tried Bickerstaff, give him a go. You won't be sorry you did. No question about the 5-Star plus rating, from this reviewer, for Tabula Rasa. I can't wait for iteration number six of the Gavin Shawlens' series.
