When Janice, a hard-working, fun-loving young woman, making a name for herself in her family catering business, meets Blake, a wealthy, sophisticated, older man, although sparks fly, Janice initially believes he is way out of her league, but nobody can deny the intensity of the immediate desire between the pair. In Domination (Playtime is Over) by Ellen K. Bennett, Blake is entranced by the simple, no-nonsense, and innocent style of Janice. Despite his own preconceptions he soon finds himself under the young woman’s spell. But, Blake hides a difficult childhood and a need to dominate the women in his life. Can Janice handle the intensity of this new relationship and allow it to flourish, despite the obvious attraction between the pair.

Domination is exactly what it sets out to be; an erotic, steamy and fascinating story, of two very different lifestyles, colliding and attempting to find common ground. Bennett plays the pair off each other, well; the slightly world-weary and cynical businessman, whose expectation of woman is that they always want him for the wrong reasons and a man haunted by his lacklustre and unloving childhood. Paired with a young, vivacious, somewhat naive, but ultimately eager to experiment, woman who still believes in love, the stage is set for some interesting byplay. The eroticism in this book is well written and suitably steamy and hot. I don’t read a lot of eroticism, however, this story, I found not only enjoyable but extremely easy to read. I finished it in double-quick time. If you like your eroticism, with a dash of forbidden spice (but not too kinky), then Domination is definitely the book for you. An excellent read and within its genre well worth the five stars I have awarded it. As part of a series, this book has left me thirsting for more and I may well slake my thirst, on more of Ellen K. Bennett’s work.

Born in prison, Angel’s first 18 months of life are spent with her mother Mary, but after that she is passed onto her drug-addled father Luke and his hairdresser girlfriend, Sofia. Thus begins the story of a special, young girl, An Angel With Secrets by Marti Eicholz. By the time Angel is six years old, she decides it would be better off for her to be on her own, so she runs away from Sofia’s hairdressing salon and heads out on a journey of discovery where she meets true caring and true love at the hands of “strangers”. We watch this incredibly gifted and talented young girl grow into a young woman with a depth of understanding and compassion rare in one so young.

An Angel With Secrets is a coming of age story that defies the usual scenarios. Angel is incredibly mature for her young age and teaches everyone who comes into contact with her the true meaning of love and family. What I particularly liked about Eicholz’s story is the way in which she seamlessly wove a depth of different characters into the story, demonstrating the coincidences and synchronicities of the Universe that are a part of our everyday life, but which we often fail to see. Everywhere Angel went she touched those who came into contact with her and somehow every character seemed inextricably linked to each other and to Angel. If you enjoy evocative and meaningful prose wrapped up in a sweet story, then An Angel With Secrets will definitely appeal to you.

The Silence Book III by Monty Helfgott is a continuation of the time-travel saga that examines various descendants of a great Jewish Rabbi lineage. In Book III we are introduced to Arik (Lion of God). Born in a poor Jewish settlement in Poland, the son of a Grand Rabbi, he is brought up by a simple blacksmith and his mother, whom Arik believe to be his father and grandmother. War clouds are on the horizon and as first the Soviets and then the Nazi march into their small village hell bent on destruction and annihilation of the Jews, Arik needs to discover his true roots and take on his rightful mantle as the Grand Rabbi. The murder of his adopted father leads Arik on a voyage of self-discovery that will ultimately pit him against Soviet Bio-Chemical warfare and the murderous reign of the Nazi Holocaust.

A fast-paced and twisting tale of magic and mysticism all wrapped up in the Jewish religion was quite fascinating and Helfgott clearly has done his research on the subject. I particularly liked that Arik, as a character, was slightly physically deformed, yet it was this deformity that would often prove to be his most potent weapon when required to fight. The idea of Arik’s descendants actually watching and assisting him at times, through the facility of time travel was intriguing and although I found the odd suspension of belief necessary from time to time, the story unrolled well and was an enjoyable read. If you are a fan of magic, mysticism, religious powers wrapped up in a historical package, I’m sure The Silence Book III by Monty Helfgott will be an enjoyable read.

Like all of Julie Elizabeth Powell's books that I've read to date, Maisie is something straight from the author's fertile mind and imagination. It is a delightful fantasy adventure about a young, blind, seven-year-old, orphan by the name of Maisie.
Maisie always wondered about her past, as she tries to cope with the difficulties of living in a foster home and attending sch0ol where she is mercilessly tormented and bullied by her peers. It is only at night, in her dreams, where Maisie feels free, where she is able to see and where she discovers that there may be more to her world than she first thought.
Finally, thrown into one of her dreams, she discovers herself in the magical world of Mageia, where it seems she is vitally important to the future of the world. Required to grow up and take responsibility very early, Maisie discovers she is so much more than she thought she was.
Powell's descriptive abilities are well displayed here as she gives the reader an incredibly vivid word picture of this new world, Maisie has found herself on. The collection of characters Maisie runs into and befriends are as weird as they are wonderful. Powell's imagination can never be faulted in the books of hers I've read thus far.
Maisie is a delightful coming of age story in a world of magic, where nothing is quite what it seems. This book has the ability to appeal to children, young adults, and adults alike. If you love magic and a cast of amazing characters, I know you'll enjoy Maisie.
