This is not the first Fischer book I have read, but it is the first set in a contemporary environment. The Healer is definitely different from my favourite book from Fisher, Ludwika, but it is an excellent and enjoyable read. It also covers some weighty issues and has plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader interested and engaged. One thing Fischer always does well is make the reader guess what is coming next and, of course, for an excellent author like him, the readers' guesses are often incorrect, as mine were on numerous occasions.
In this story, high-flying and high-living advertising executive Erica is given the most dreadful of news. She has inoperable stage-four pancreatic cancer and only a few months left to live. In desperation, with the help of her faithful assistant Hilda, she seeks out the only chance left - a famous faith healer named Arpan, who hasn't practiced in over twenty years after a series of articles that discredited him.
So begins a fascinating journey as Erica discovers many things about herself and about the world. Everything it seems is linked somehow.
While, I really enjoyed the story and the writing of Christoph Fischer, as I always do, there were a few times when I felt the plot strayed a little from the believable. That having been said, if you're a committed conspiracy theorist, you'll just nod your head sagely at those points. The book does a fantastic job of asking and reminding us about; "what it is we are here for". There are plenty of life lessons that can be gleaned from the pages.
Christoph Fischer is a superb "indie" author and one of the leading lights in the "indie" author community. The Healer is a continuation of the superb contribution he continues to make to independently published literature. Well done him!
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good adventure story that touches all the right places in our thoughts. A book that makes you think is more than just plain entertainment and The Healer is one such book. A solid four star rating from me.

Thanks Max......yes, I love Christoph's work. I haven't read Skin Cage......must put it on my TBR list. My favourite is definitely Ludwika so far.
