Professor Phineas Steele is well aware of the hoax that was perpetrated on the scientific community when news of this tribe's cannibalistic nature and their propensity for making granite skulls of their victims was first reported. Despite his misgivings, he has kept his dead colleague's secret all these years, until one day he is confronted by evidence that must make him act and he embarks on his own adventure in the hunt for this elusive tribe. The results are ironic, to say the least.
I enjoyed this little tale and am impressed with Markham's (an author who is new to me) writing and I will definitely be checking out what she may produce in the future. The idea of anthropological hoaxes throughout history has generated many stories and this is one of the better ones.
I would highly recommend this as a great bedtime story. It is short, sharp, to the point and well-written.
Markham is a name I will be watching out for in the future.
