6 faSCINATING BEDTIME STORIES FOR CHILDREN


1/ Ugly Duckling
Being one of the classics, the tale of the ugly duckling has entertained children all around the world for countless generations. The story is about a duckling that lives on a farm along with his siblings and mother. Strange looking with its gray feathers and large size, everyone thought him ugly. He was shunned and ostracized growing up until he ran away from home and lived alone in a swamp until spring came. Now fully grown, he approached the swans carefully, fully expecting to be rejected. Instead, he was welcomed with open wings. Upon seeing his reflection, he realized he is no longer the ugly duckling but a gorgeous and magnificent swan. He joins his new flock and flies off into the distance.
2/ Midas' Touch
Another classic bedtime story for kids is Midas. The story is about a Greek king, Midas, who was known to be greedy and always discontented. He loved gold above anything else. One time, after doing a good deed for some, a Greek god appeared before him and offered to grant him anything he wanted. Midas immediately wished to have the ability to turn anything he touched into pure gold. Tremendously excited, Midas went about touching everything and turning it gold. But when he sat down to eat, even his food turned to gold before we could take a bite out of it. Hearing his cries, his daughter went to Midas to console him only to be turned to gold to Midas' horror. He cried and begged for this curse to be lifted. Eventually, the god took pity and returned things to the way they were.
The Ant and the Grasshopper
The whole year-round, the ant was busy working, looking for food in preparation for the rainy season while the grasshopper was playing his violent and enjoying the nice weather. When the rain came, the grasshopper couldn't find a single thing to eat. He was wet, hungry, and regretful. Finally, he had to knock on the ant's door who he teased relentlessly for working so hard. The ant, having a heart of gold, took pity on the grasshopper and welcomed him to his home.
Aladdin and the Magic Lamp
This next bedtime story is lifted right out of fiction books for boys. It tells the story of Aladdin, a poor orphaned boy who happens to come across a magical lamp with a genie. The genie offers Aladdin three wishes. Now rich and happy, Aladdin didn't escape the scrutiny of others, particularly the magician who led him to the lamp in the first place. The story of Aladdin focuses on adventure, self-worth, and the power to dream.
Interrupting Chicken
If your kids want something light for a bedtime story, they will love the story of the interrupting chicken. A red chicken on a farm gets too excited in finishing a story that he interrupts anyone telling it. His dad grew frustrated because the red chicken would finish all the bedtime stories we would tell. Finally, papa chicken gave up and just asked the red chicken to read him a story instead. Within minutes, papa chicken was snoring softly as the red chicken continued reading.
Beauty and the Beast
A classic love story about a beast and a beautiful girl, Beauty and the Beast is a favorite bedtime story for children, boys or girls. It recounts a scary beast locked up in a castle. One day, a beautiful maiden got lost in the forest and ended up in the castle. With a pure heart, she managed to tame the beasts, angry heart. True love eventually transformed the beast into a handsome young prince who was initially cursed for being heartless.
