The first cab off the rank is ALEX E. CAREY and her superb ELEMENTAL SERIES!

Alex E. Carey was born in Texas and majored in English at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Kira’s story came to her during her first semester of college. Alex scribbled stories in between classes and ideas continued to flow for more stories and characters. She soon realized she was meant to be a writer. She is now the author of three published novels in the Elemental Series. She is currently working on the fourth book in the series, as well as other short stories and novels in progress.
Alex enjoys a variety of books and genres, but her favorites are paranormal and fantasy. She reads a variety of authors and has many favorites including Emily Dickinson, Kim Harrison, Percy Jackson, Edgar Allan Poe, J. K. Rowling, and William Shakespeare.
When not at work on her latest book, she enjoys reading, walking trails, and spending time with her family and their three dogs.

The Elemental Series follows the adventures of Kira Phoenix as she goes to college, encounters demons, confronts evil, and finds love. The demons in the series aren’t Biblical demons, and can be good or evil.
ABOUT THE MAIN CHARACTERS:
Kira is a 16 year old girl who goes to college early. She’s escaping a few painful memories and a psychotic former best friend who has turned to dark witchcraft. She doesn’t expect to meet demons her first few weeks in her new town, nor to fall in love. As the series progresses, she discovers powers of her own and must learn to control them to save herself, new friends and boyfriend. Damsel in distress was never a role she played in the past. She won’t start now.
Pyre is a fire demon with a rocky past looking for a second chance at the same time he has given up on ever finding it. Although he fears falling in love and having his heart broken again, he is drawn to Kira. He tries to resist her, afraid that his evil past will come back to haunt himself and hurt her. Still he is driven to protect her, even if it means sacrificing himself.
Lowell, aka Ulric the Wolf Thief, is a wolf demon in the earth element. Lowell struggles with his lingering feelings for Cadel, the love who died in his arms, and the guilt he carries for her death. Although Kira reminds him of Cadel, and he develops a crush on her, he realizes that she and Pyre are meant for each other and introduces them. He wants his two best friends to be happy and tries to convince himself that Kira is like a sister, but it’s also hard for him to watch their growing romance. Little does he know that a new love will soon find him.

Revision released in 2016. Available in paperback, hardcover and most e-book formats.

Fire’s Love (Elemental Series) by Alex Carey is an intriguing romance between Kira, a human girl, and Pyre, a fire-demon who lives mostly in human form. Kira’s roommate is difficult, her best friend has gone insane, and her new friends are not completely human. Otherwise, her first year in college is normal. The mystery surrounding Kira’s missing family, suspense from her terrifying dreams (with the added element of foresight), and the unshakable feeling of being watched by something evil keeps you wondering what will happen next. The suspense and emotional connections grow with each page, and a nice mix of likable characters makes this a good read.

I loved this book! It grabbed me from the start. Alex draws you in and makes you wish you were part of the group of friends. Some are human and others are demons but they are a "family" Kira the main character could be many of us. I like that she is not "normal" but good with that. She is strong, smart, and true to herself. Alex writes with such detail you "feel" what the characters are feeling. I can't wait to see where Alex takes Kira, Prye, and Lowell/Ulric in the next book.

Released in 2014. Available in paperback, hardcover and most e-book formats.

This is the second book of this series based on the delightful paring of Kira a seventeen year old human girl and Pyre a demon youth of not even two hundred years old who are surprisingly well matched. This unlikely and fun pair fell in love in the first book of the Elemental Series and they pay the consequences of that love in this book. Follow them as they make it through all the normal issues of being new in college, first apartments, first jobs, and attempts on their lives. Perhaps attempts on their lives is not a normal situation, but then they are not a normal couple.
Kira makes new girlfriends at school who are a surprise in many ways and turn out to be quite the addition in bringing joy and confusion while the boys try to figure them out. I can't tell much more without spoiling the surprises, but I'll tell you it's fun to uncover the truth about the new kids on the block.
However much fun Kira and her new friends have, it isn't all one big party as Crystal comes in from Kira's past determined to... well pretty much mess everything up. Strange dreams that bring elements into the real world shake Kira to her core while stumping Pyre on how to protect the girl he is so deeply in love with.

Carey gets quickly into her story with an engaging introduction of young heroine Kira. The strength of the book resides in Kira, who remains a force throughout. The writing establishes and maintains a strong emotional connection with Kira, showcasing some interesting worldbuilding, too. The magic in Water’s Reflection feels plausible and is the lynchpin holding the fantasy together.
The writing—the stuff that reveals talent (which can’t be taught, as opposed to craft, which can be)—is quite good: readable, active, and engaging.
